Last Thursday night saw the grand finale of the Westfield Garden City Stylist’s Apprentice competition. Held in a secret warehouse location, the event showcased a short runway show put together by each of the five finalists who were selected from hundreds of applicants. In the lead up to the event the 5 finalists, which included our very own styling student Candice Naughtin, were put through weeks of fashion, styling and reporting challenges in order to determine which budding stylist had what it takes to be crowned the 2012 Stylist’s Apprentice.

The competition was fearless and the stakes were high as the winner would be given a paid job with the Westfield Garden City style team as a stylist and fashion blogger as well as being appointed the ‘Style Lounge Ambassador’. If that wasn’t enough, the winner would also be given many opportunities to assist with fashion photo shoots, visual merchandising and major fashion events, given the chance to be the ‘voice’ of Westfield Garden City, through their facebook page and also receive an internship with Brisbane’s Style Magazine. Needless to say, the opportunity would launch the career of the winning stylist.

I attended the grand finale along with Candice’s classmates and her two styling trainers, stylists Susie McWatt-Forbes and Kathryn Edmonds, in support, cheering Candice on. Each finalist was announced one by one by Emily Jade O’Keefe, the host of the night, by showing a short video clip of each finalist in their homes, showing us their unique wardrobes and telling us about their own unique style, allowing the audience to get a feel for each candidate before they showed us their runway show featuring their own four looks for Winter which they had the challenging task of putting together in a 2 hour challenge! Watch the Candice’s video introduction below:

After watching all 5 finalist’s present their winter runway looks, the judges, which included Sara Hatten-Masterson (Westfield Garden City’s head stylist), Melissa Llewellyn (Westfield Garden City’s Marketing Executive), Lucy Slater (Vivien Models), Claire Parvic (Style Magazine), Alice Waugh (The 2011 Competition Winner) and guest judge Ruby Rose, had the difficult task of choosing the winner. The judges had to consider not only the final runway looks, but also how each finalist faired over the various challenges. We were all holding our breath for Candice as the winners were announced.

First they announced the winner of the People’s Choice Award – our very own Candice Naughtin! Biting our lips as they continued to announce the 2nd Runner Up – Chloe, the 1st Runner up – Mohammed and then finally the Winner of the 2012 Stylist’s Apprentice – Candice Naughtin! We give our congratulations to Candice, you did a fabulous job and we know you are going to have huge success in the industry!
