I studied the Diploma of Visual Arts at AICD. The teacher’s extensive visual art and design knowledge, including the Graphic Design industry, supported me in gaining the technical skills. The expert creative direction received was an asset to completing projects. The teacher introduced fresh, inspirational ideas. During the Covid19 pandemic, we transitioned to online. This was a challenge, but the teacher continued the organised class structure and was available to ensure deadlines were met and guide us in creative pursuits.

I studied the Diploma of Visual Arts with the Australian Institute of Creative Design was fantastic. Our teacher was always there to help us with learning the various software (Photoshop etc.) and to support us in coming up with solutions to design problems. We were pushed to do our best creative work, inspired by our classmates and our motivated teacher.

I studied the Diploma of Fashion Styling at the Australian Institute of Creative Design. The course gave me the knowledge, skills and confidence to work with established, professional fashion stylists and photographers. The practical aspects of the course allowed me to put my skills into action in creatively directed photo shoots and practical coursework, while building an awesome portfolio.

I am so grateful to have studied the AICD Diploma of Visual Art: Surface Design. The endless encouragement from supportive, experienced teachers helped me gain knowledge, skills and confidence to design my first streetwear collection. I remember the joy of learning the Adobe creative software and the wonderful experience of creating and installing my art for the launch of our online student exhibition, Ever Evolve. My Maori heritage has inspired designs for a children’s swimwear collection and I am currently producing artwork for an original ‘hoody’ prototype.

As a fine artist and Graphic Designer, l had always separated my works in graphic design and visual art. Studying the Certificate III in Design Fundamentals with the Australian Institute of Creative, l soon learned to love combining my work in both disciplines into beautiful Surface Pattern designs. l then enrolled in the AICD Diploma of Visual Art. I now enjoy creating my original watercolors and incorporating these in repeat pattern designs for production on various surfaces, including fabric. Thanks to my studies at AICD, I developed the skills and confidence to launch my online shop TamlynG and I currently work as a full-time designer.

Needing a hands-on, creative, practical approach to develop my skills and understanding of the fashion industry, I moved my studies from university to the Australian Institute of Creative Design (AICD). There I gained industry knowledge and real-world experience, learning the fundamentals of marketing, designing, documentation, trends, buying, visual merchandising and more. My focus was fashion business, but learning sewing and pattern making gave me a deeper understanding of the fashion industry. I developed my portfolio and won an internship, leading to a visual merchandising job offer.
